ASUSTOR Lockerstor Gen2/Gen2+ NAS Overview
The ASUSTOR Lockerstor Gen2 and Gen2+ platforms represent ASUSTOR’s mainstream desktop x86 NAS architecture for users who require higher network throughput, NVMe support, and flexible expansion without moving into rackmount or enterprise hardware classes.
Both generations share the same underlying platform design and operating environment, with differences primarily related to networking revisions and physical expansion scale. As a result, Gen2 and Gen2+ models are best understood as a single platform family rather than separate product categories.
Platform Architecture
All Lockerstor Gen2 and Gen2+ systems are built on the Intel Celeron N5105 processor and share a common architectural foundation.
Key platform characteristics include:
• Quad core x86 CPU architecture
• Integrated GPU support for media services
• Four internal M.2 NVMe slots for SSD cache or storage pools
• Support for multi gigabit Ethernet networking
• PCIe expansion capability on larger chassis variants
These characteristics define the Gen2 platform and apply consistently across all models in both the original and Gen2 and Gen2+ revisions.
Memory and Storage Architecture
Lockerstor Gen2 and Gen2+ systems use DDR4 system memory and support user expansion. Memory capacity and expansion headroom scale with chassis size, allowing the platform to support a range of workloads from basic file services to more demanding multi service deployments.
Primary storage is provided through SATA drive bays, while the four integrated M.2 NVMe slots can be used for SSD caching or high performance storage volumes. This dual tier storage architecture allows Gen2 systems to balance capacity and performance without external expansion.
Memory and storage capabilities are consistent across the platform, with practical scalability determined by model size rather than architectural differences.

Gen2 vs Gen2+ (v2) Clarification
Lockerstor Gen2+ (v2) models represent a mid cycle update to the Gen2 platform rather than a new generation.
Both revisions:
• Use the same Intel Celeron N5105 processor
• Support the same NVMe and storage architecture
• Run the same ADM operating system and feature set
Gen2+ systems incorporate targeted hardware refinements, most notably updated networking configurations, while maintaining platform compatibility and deployment intent. From an architectural perspective, Gen2 and Gen2+ are treated as a unified family.

Networking and Expansion
Networking capabilities vary by revision and chassis size:
• Gen2 models typically ship with dual 2.5GbE Ethernet ports
• Gen2+ models introduce higher multi-gigabit networking options depending on configurations
These networking capabilities are intended to support faster client access, improved backup throughput, and aggregation scenarios within the small office and advanced home environments.
Expansion capability scales with physical size:
• 2 bay models prioritize compact deployment and core platform functionality
• 4 bay and 6 bay models add PCIe expansion slots, enabling optional network or storage expansion
These differences affect scalability and connectivity rather than platform capability.
Software and Workload Capabilities
All Lockerstor Gen2 and Gen2+ systems run ASUSTOR’s ADM operating system and support the same software feature set.
Common platform capabilities include:
• Snapshot based data protection
• Backup and synchronization workflows
• Virtualization and container support with platform limits
• Media services and streaming applications
• Centralized storage for multi user environments
Workload suitability depends on model size, memory configuration, and networking capabilities rather than generation alone.
Model Lineup
The Lockerstor Gen2/Gen2+ desktop lineup consists of six models, differentiated primarily by drive bay count and revision.
2 Bay Models
• Lockerstor 2 Gen2 (AS6702T)
• Lockerstor 2 Gen2 v2/Gen2+ (AS6702T v2)
4 Bay Models
• Lockerstor 4 Gen2 (AS6704T)
• Lockerstor 4 Gen v2/Gen2+ (AS6704T v2)
6 Bay Models
• Lockerstor 6 Gen2 (AS6706T)
• Lockerstor 6 Gen2/Gen2+ v2 (AS6706T v2)
All six models share the same platform architecture, with differences primarily related to physical capacity, expansion support, and the default configuration.
Use Case
Lockerstor Gen2 and Gen2+ systems are commonly deployed for:
• Centralized file storage
• Backup and snapshot based data protection
• Media libraries and media serving workloads
• Small office and advanced home environments
• Virtualization and container workloads within platform limits
Performance and scalability expectations should be based on model size and networking configuration rather than generation alone.
Relationship to Lockerstor Gen3
Lockerstor Gen3 builds on the same desktop Lockerstor concept using AMD Ryzen Embedded processors and higher networking tiers. Gen2 and Gen2+ remain relevant for deployments where Intel based x86 compatibility, NVMe density, and multi gigabit networking meet workload requirements.
